TRAINING OF THE FUTURE TEACHERS FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF THE MODEL OF INTEGRATING THE LEARNING CONTENT OF THE SUBJECT MATERIAL WITH THE LANGUAGE STUD

Abstract

The aim of the article is to characterize the content of the programme of training future and experienced teachers in carrying out content and language integrated learning model as one of the teaching models that are being supported and introduced within the European educational space. The guidelines of the programme are presented on the basis of the research project carried out under the auspices of the Council of Europe. The European framework for content and language integrated learning teacher education aims to provide a set of principles and ideas for designing CLIL professional development curriculum. The target professional competences, functioning as a condition for the efficiency of the model implementation are addressed. The study of the project materials has allowed us for drawing the following conclusions: the goal of the introduction of new models of teaching foreign languages is to raise the level of foreign language competence as well as to strengthen the role of a foreign language as a learning tool and a means for the acquisition of the content of education with the focus on subject-specific foreign language competence; the introduction of the model requires specific training of future and working teachers as the implementation of the model requires the proficiency in general pedagogic professional competencies and proficiency in specific competencies – those that are specific namely for the implementation of the given model; teachers have to be aware of the professional competencies allowing for the achievement of efficient results within the content and language integrated learning model and have to acquire them; the success of the teaching model implementation is ensured not only by the activities of an individual teacher but when all structural components of the model function properly; the model is recommended for the implementation at higher educational establishments as it is likely to foster the professionally-oriented character of foreign language teaching and learning.
