Treatment Of Isolated Gingival Recessıon In The Anterior Region Of The Mandible With A Combination Of Pinhole Surgical Technique and Lateral Tunnel Technique: A Case Report

Journal Title: Uluslararası Dis Hekimligi Bilimleri Dergisi - Year 2024, Vol 10, Issue 3

Abstract

Gingival recession is characterized by the apical migration of the gingival margin, leading to the exposure of the root surface. Although its etiology is not fully understood, several factors are acknowledged, including the position of teeth within the arch, bone loss, thickness of the alveolar mucosa, improper tooth brushing, orthodontic treatment, and periodontal disease. With the introduction of minimally invasive surgery, various techniques have been proposed for the treatment of gingival recession, aiming to minimize patient morbidity while maximizing surgical outcomes and patient comfort. This case presentation involves the treatment of deep and localized gingival recession in a mandibular incisor using a minimally invasive approach. The recession area was treated using a combination of the Lateral Tunnel Technique (LTT) and the Pinhole Surgical Technique (PST) along with a connective tissue graft. Eighteen months post-operation, a 90% root coverage was achieved, and an increase in the width of attached gingiva in the anterior lower region was observed. Conclusion: This case report highlights the aesthetic and periodontal success achieved by combining two minimally invasive techniques in the treatment of deep and localized gingival recession.
