Journal Title: PEYZAJ - Journal of Education, Science, Culture and Art - Year 2021, Vol 3, Issue 1
Abstract
The profession of landscape architecture, which started its academic process with concepts such as "garden architecture" and "ornamental plants" in the past, is developing in the fields of planning and design today. Although many topics are dealt with in academic and professional arena, knowledge, skills and competences about plants are still the most important qualification that distinguishes landscape architects from other planning and design professions. The academic education, which forms the basis of the landscape architecture profession, has been shaped over the years with the efforts of academicians. This article examines the relationship of young academics with plants through their master and Ph.D theses that were produced between 2016-2020, by using the information from National Thesis Center (YÖK) database. The theses which include the words of "plant", "ornamental plant", "ornamental plants" and "landscape plants" in their title, summary or index, in the field of landscape architecture were searched. It was found that a total of 638 graduate theses were completed in the field of landscape architecture in the last 5 years and 40 of them are master theses while 6 of them are doctoral theses. Academic orientation of the landscape architecture profession in terms of plant material was discussed based on the findings.
