Journal Title: PEYZAJ - Journal of Education, Science, Culture and Art - Year 2021, Vol 3, Issue 1
Abstract
Today, global warming and the associated climate change have led to several environmental problems such as epidemics and increasing natural disasters. Sustainability of the natural resources and effective use of energy resources for future generations should be targeted for the solution of these problems. In this context, the number of ecological structures based on ecological architecture and design criteria has been increasing day by day. This study focuses on the functional and aesthetic contributions of ecological structures that were generated based on the sustainable and efficient use of natural resources and evaluates the matter on sample structures. In the first section of the study, a literature review was made and the terms of ecological architecture, the principles of ecological building designs, aesthetics, aesthetics and qualities of architectural structures, and the perceptions in the ecological structure were defined and explained to form a theoretical framework. In the second section, several samples of structures that were designed with and without ecological criteria were chosen and the creations of worldwide known architects including Edward Cullinan, Norman Foster, Ken Yeang, Bill Dunster, Renzo Piano, Richard Rogers, Emillio Ambasz, Semih Eryıldız, and Gökhan Avcıoğlu, who have contributed to the ecological literature, were examined according to these two categories. As a result of this examination, a matrix has been created according to the basic design and the ecological design criteria and the resulting data was analyzed and discussed.
