Triaxial Tests on Deformation Characteristics of Saturated Silt

Abstract
The silt obtained from a proposed highway roadbed in Nanjing city was remoulded with different dry densities and moisture contents in the test room. The saturated triaxial consolidation drained shear tests were carried out with different dry densities and initial moisture contents of silt samples. The stress-strain curves and effective stress ratio curves of the silt were measured with different confining pressures. The effect of dry density,initial moisture content and confining pressure on the strength of the silt samples was analyzed. The test results show that the strength of silt becomes bigger with the dry density and confining pressure increasing. In addition,the initial moisture contents of sample preparation have influence on the strength to a certain extent.Moreover,the stress-strain curves of silt show a characteristic of weak strain hardening model.
