TRIBOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF DEGENERATE SYNOVIAL JOINTS
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2012, Vol 245, Issue 5
Abstract
Joint cartilage in the human body is one of those elements that is most vulnerable to overload and degenerative changes. These changes are influenced by factors such as traffic accidents, lack of physical activates or metabolic disturbances. In this paper, the results of research aimed at the determination of the degeneration rate of the cartilage of a human joint on its tribological properties are presented. This experimental research was carried out using physical models. To carry out this research, a test stand modelling a fundamental scheme of loading and motion for the knee joint had been constructed. The measurements of the friction moment were realised for the fluctuate motion, with the proceeding of the time of rolling- sliding fluid friction. The research was realised for load force Fn = 0÷105[N]. (Sliding velocity vs = {0, 3, 6, 9}[mm/s], and the speed of rotation in measuring point ω = 0.33[s-1]) The specimen and counter specimen used in the testing are in sliding/rolling contact, which reflects, to a maximum degree possible, the relative motion of frictional surfaces in a joint. The results of this research were used for the evaluation of the influence of degenerative changes on tribological changes in the joint cartilage.

THE POSSIBILITIES OF STRENGTHENING OF THE SURFACE LAYER OF NODULAR IRON BY LASER ALLOYING WITH SILICON NITRIDE ON THE EXAMPLE OF A ROCKER ARM
In the order to increase the resistance to the friction wear of machine parts appropriate surface treatment application is needed. The aim of presented research was to evaluate the laser alloying with silicon nitride eff...

THE EFFECT OF SURFACE TEXTURE OF STEEL DISC ON FRICTION AND FRETTING WEAR
Fretting tests were performed using an Optimol SRV5 tribotester in a ball-on-flat scheme. Balls from 100Cr6 steel of 60 HRC hardness and diameters of 10 mm co-acted with discs from 42CrMo4 steel of 47 HRC hardness under...
ANALYSIS OF THE INFLUENCE OF BASIC CONSTRUCTIONAL PARAMETERS ON POWER LOSSES IN THE MESHING OF A TOOTHED CYLINDRICAL GEAR
Efficiency of gear depends, in significant measure, on power losses that occur in meshing, bearing and sealing. An amount of these losses depends on friction conditions in the named nodes of gear design, and it is define...
THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL ANALYSIS OF VARIATION OF AXIAL FORCE IN THE SCREW CONNECTIONS
Two studies show a scatter in the values of initial-clamp-bolt force data during the assembly of screw connections. Theoretical analysis is based on the friction coefficient of variation even for the same type of materia...
