TRIBOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF N-ALCOHOLS, N-ALKYLPHENYLS AND GLYCOLS ALKOXY DITHIOPHOSPHATES IN FRICTION CONTACTS: STEEL–STEEL, AL2O3–AL2O3 AND STEEL–AL2O3

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2010, Vol 234, Issue 6

Abstract

The zinc di-n-alkyko(arylo)ethoxyditiophosphates, a new class of organodithio- phosphorous compounds(ZEDPs) with low phosphorous, low ash contents and high thermal stability have been prepared, they are very good AW/EP and antifriction additives. In the 1990s, with introduction of exhaust catalysts, it was realised that phosphorus and sulphur oxides and ash reduce the effectiveness these catalysts and block filters within the exhaust gas; hence, the disadvantage of ZDTPs is that they contain large amounts of phosphorus, sulphur, and zinc. Friction and wear tests were performed using a ball-on-disc tester and four-ball tester under lubricated conditions with the use of an additive mineral and synthetic oil solution. ZEDPs adsorbed films from lubricating oil solution on steel and wear scar surfaces of balls were investigated using STM.
