Abstract
Starting from December 21, 1989, Sibiu was the city where repressive actions against anti-Ceaușescu demonstrators started, namely detainments and shootings, as well as retaliatory actions from UM 01512 (The „Nicolae Bălcescu” Military School of Active Officers) against the forces of the Ministry of Interior (the Milition and the Security), and against the forces of the alleged „terrorist forces”. According to the official records of the UM 01512 Sibiu, 67,320 cartridges caliber 7.62 mm ordinary short bullet, 44,800 cartridges caliber 7.62 mm for submachine gun, 4,400 cartridges caliber 7.62 mm long bullet, 13,200 maneuver cartridges and 2,648 incendiary cartridges were consumed by firing. Figures that impress and give rise to multiple questions regarding the role and place of the military structures of those moments (the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of the Interior) in the whole outbreak and unfolding of the Romanian Revolution of December 1989 in Sibiu, and their influence on the establishment of new political power structures.
