Abstract
The article touches on the harpsichord works written by Paweł Szymański, an outstanding Polish composer. Its short introduction outlines the state of contemporary Polish harpsichord music since 1936. Then in presents complete works by Paweł Szymański – both the official pieces, such as avant-garde and surconventional compositions, and unofficial pieces, works directly referring to Baroque music. Short formal and interpretative analyses are preceded by the information concerning premiere performances, composition orders, inscriptions, availability of scores and discography. A supplement to the article includes a short biographical sketch of Paweł Szymański. The list of the described compositions is as follows: Limericks [version I] for violin and harpsichord (1975), Villanelle for countertenor, 2 violas and harpsichord (1981), Partita III for amplified harpsichord and orchestra (1985– 86), Through the Looking-Glass... III: version I. for solo harpsichord (1994), Une Suite de Pieces de clavecin par MR. Szymański for solo harpsichord (2001), Concerto grosso con duoi Violini e Violoncello di Concertino obbligati e duoi altri Violini, Viola e Basso di Concerto Grosso del Sig’ Szymański (2004), Les Poiriers en Pologne ou une Suite de Pièces Sentimentales de Clavecin faite par Mr Szymański for solo harpsichord (2008), Dissociative Counterpoint Disorder for solo harpsichord (2014).<br/><br/>
