Współczesna książka-zabawka w Bibliotece Jagiellońskiej

Abstract
The article concerns acquisition of contemporary toy books in the Jagiellonian Library, which is obliged by law to permanently archive all publishing output in Poland. This type of publications is of interest not just as a part of Polish cultural heritage and material for potential studies, but also as a publishing sector dynamically growing in recent years. The procedures of their acquiring, preserving and circulating currently in effect in the Library are discussed. On the basis of own experience, data from the Library’s catalogue, as well as documentation held in the Acquisition Department, the publishing houses to have submitted such publications as legal deposit copies are presented. A thorough analysis of toy book offers on websites of bookshops and publishers enabled us to identify gaps in the Library’s holdings. The various forms of contemporary toy books are described, as well as their signifi cance in child development. It has been concluded that actually quite a few publishers fail to duly deliver such publications to the Jagiellonian Library, in part due to wrongly assuming that they are of no real relevance to a research library.
