ЗАСОБИ ІСТОРИЧНОЇ СТИЛІЗАЦІЇ РОМАНУ «ДЖЕЙН ЕЙР» ШАРЛОТТИ БРОНТЕ В УКРАЇНСЬКОМУ ПЕРЕКЛАДІ

Abstract

The means of expressing historically marked vocabulary became the focus of this article as they make for historical stylization of translated texts and reproduction of the main functions of historical and archaic words in Ukrainian translation. The article describes some special features of reproducing stylistic uniqueness distinctive for original texts due to temporal characteristics of their vocabulary. The article aims to concentrate on more detailed studies of possible ways and strategies of historic stylization taking into consideration the growing interest and demand happening in the domain of translating temporal vocabulary into Ukrainian. Historically marked vocabulary is the basis for historical stylization in fiction text. There are different translation techniques, based on certain linguistic phenomenon and resources which also make the bases for creating general temporal background in translated texts. To our mind, they should be considered and used while expressing historical stylization in translations. Among the means of stylization in fiction text, except chronologically marked vocabulary there are other tools of translator, effectiveness of which is based on using different qualities of historic and archaic words. First, while choosing means of translation one should consider tools which could demonstrate the effect of contrast to general lexical background in translated text, such as rarely used words, unusual for reader words and those which show historically informative connotations contained in word, typical morphological distinctiveness, emotional characteristics of vocabulary. Finally, we come to decision that displaying stylistic features of the original texts which contain obsolete elements, authors of translations find out historic and archaic words of Ukrainian language, rarely used words, practice different references and micro stylistic literature forms, proper names, common for the time of writing the original and consider main functions of archaic vocabulary that make for portraying general stylistic of the source. The perspective of this research lies in further study of means of stylization and more detailed exploration of different factors which influence translator’s choice. This issue dealswith comparing different options of archaic vocabulary available in the source and the target language of translation and widening these circle with the help of different linguistic springs, such as glossaries, dictionaries and literature sources.
