A diagnosis of process maturity in a business cluster initiative

Abstract
The changes in the market make the process approach the foundation on which today's organizations are built. The principal feature of this concept is a co-operation and coordination of tasks at different levels of decision-making and in the various branches of the functio¬nal and organizational units. The essence of the process approach therefore fits very well, according to the authors, with the issue of cluster development, giving opportunities to coordinate cooperative structures. The paper presents the idea of the process approach and the possibility of its use in the formation of cluster structures. The main objective of this article is a cognitive presentation of selected aspects of assessing the level of processes maturity in cluster initiatives operating in the Podlasie Province. The paper is focused on the business maturity of Podlaski Metalworking Cluster members. The authors pointed out that at the initial stage of business cluster development a necessary action is to improve awareness of the cluster’s idea. According to the authors, implementation of the process approach in a business cluster would help to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its objectives. The research was conducted as the project Role and impact of implementing a process approach to the organization and functioning of cluster initiatives. The project was financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
