Abstract
The subject of the study is the peculiarity of the artistic deconstruction of the image of Homer‟s Odyssey in the poetic paradigm of the novel The Fisherman of the Ocean: The Odyssey’s History by the contemporary Ukrainian writer Volodymyr Yermolenko. The theme is represented through the geographical travel of «a new Odyssey», his bodily wanderings through the prism of microtrops of pain, sensitivity, desire, sexuality, etc. The purpose of the article is to determine the peculiarities of the artistic comprehension of the postmodern image of Odyssey in the context of mythopoetic images and bodily microtoposes. Hermeneutic method, mythological criticism, and elements of the body-mimetic method of literary works analysis alongside with narrative strategy analysis are applied in the article. The scientific novelty of the article lays in the fact that for the first time it studies the image of Odyssey in the interaction with physical microtoposes. The research was based on postmodernist writing models with the installation of the deconstructed and demythologized image of the protagonist. The results of the research can be applied historically and literary (the study of the modern Ukrainian literary process specifics) and theoretically (the integral study of the Odyssey as a phenomenon in the genre of travel novel). One of the crosscutting of the research is the motive of redemption, which was not characteristic of Homer‟s Odyssey. The symbolic deconstruction of the image of Odyssey in the novel is realized at the level of narrative strategy as «an unreliable narrator». The constant change of focalization, postmodern play with the reader at the plot level, the chronotop of work, the demythologization of female images (of Penelope, Navicia, Calypso, Circe, Ariadne) as well as the bodily topospheric introduction are also actively used in the text of the novel.
