A СOMPARATIVE STUDY OF NIKOLAY YEVSHAN’S AND NIKOLAY GUMILEV’S LITERARY CRITICISM: AXIOLOGIICAL ASPECTS

Abstract

The article examines and explains the common aesthetic axiology of Nikolay Yevshan and Nikolay Gumilev, literary critics of the main mode of modernistic consciousness in the Ukrainian and Russian literature of the 10-s years of the 20th century. The comparative perspective of the study of the critic’s literal-critical system is consistent with the inten-tions of their critical consciousness. The term used by Gumilev in his aesthetic declarations to the experience of the writers of the preceding cultural epochs (Shakespeare, Rabelais, Villon and Gautier) is considered by me as an indica-tor of the cultural and aesthetic mode of his critical consciousness. Gumilev prefers an ontological approach the exis-tential questions in the work of these writers, which they associated with the pathos of beauty and wisdom. The issues of Yevshan’s aesthetic program are determined by his position as citizen, a patriot with a national idea. The axiological reference point for the critic was the work and the position of Taras Shevchenko. Yevshan’s typological criticism status in modern literary criticism has not been clearly defined yet. The analysis allows to draw certain conclusions. Obvious-ly, the literary critics of the 10-s years came from the general setting of modernism axiology on the productive absorp-tion of certain ontological, aesthetic and poetic experience of previous literary trends and individual writers. The com-parative analysis of the literary-critical concepts of Yevshan and Gumilev in the 10-s years helps to determine the prox-imity of aesthetic strategies, given by certain cultural-historical and ethnomental intentions of critical consciousness.
