ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECT OF DISCOVERY LEARNING ON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS' GEOMETRIC THINKING LEVELS

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the effect of the strategy of learning through discovery while developing 7th grade students geometric thinking levels. . It involves experimental pre-test  post test model to define the effect of the strategy of learning through discovery to the students’ geometric thinking levels. The study covers 118 students attending 7th grades in two different private schools at İzmir. Developed "Geometric Thinking Level Assessment Test" was applied to all students. On the other hand, activities prepared in accordance with the strategy of learning through discovery were applied only to the students in the experimental group. On the bases of the results of experimental study findings it can be stated that the activities which are designed so stat students can make discoveries help students improve their geometric thinking levels.
