ANGLO-AMERICAN BORROWINGS IN THE GERMAN PUBLICISTIC TEXTS

Abstract

The article deals with the research of Anglo-American borrowings in the German economic terminology on the basis of German publications. The concepts of „language for professional purposes” and „terminology“ have been analyzed white investigating the scientific works of many scholars. It has been established that these two concepts are closely interacted and are part of modern languages. It is pointed out that their base is a commonly used vocabulary; they act as means of professional communication of specialists and information transfer; they have a connection with a certain area of professional activity. The terms are the basic elements of the language for professional purposes. It has been stated that the process of lexical borrowing is due both to external and internal reasons. Most Anglo-American borrowings in economic vocabulary are neologisms and mainly concern the spheres of money and banking, management, computer technology and the media. The reason for this is the leading position of the USA in the above-mentioned industries. This is also due to the gradual globalization and the internationalization of the economy, where English plays an important role. The article focuses on the structural classification of Anglicisms. It has been established that English borrowings play a crucial role not only in modern German but also in other languages of the world, since they form the majority of modern neologisms. Eight groups of Anglicisms, consisting of nouns, have been selected in the modern German press. Prospects for further research are in the study of the most productive ways of adapting Anglo-American borrowings in the German economic terminology system.
