Abstract
Elżbieta Czajka STATE ARCHIVE IN LODZ IN SOCIAL NETWORKING SERVICE “FACEBOOK” At the beginning of 21th century a notion of social media appeared in the world of the Internet. It includes the general category of applications and Internet services which enable immediate, direct communication and simple sharing and exchanging of any content between users. Social media fundamentally changed the way of communication not only of ordinary users, but also of the organizations, institutions or communities. They became places of exchanging information and ideas. Moreover, they enabled companies and institutions to promote and round-the-clock contact with other users or clients. As a consequence, on 6th November 2012 a Facebook fanpage of the State Archive in Lodz was registered. The essential intention of authors of this idea was spreading the knowledge about archival holdings, presenting the most interesting documents, showing the wealth of archival records, and above all, sending the message to the world that Polish archives exist and are open to all users. Fanpage administrators present interesting photographs and documents to spread the knowledge about the history of Lodz and region, to demonstrate how the world we live in have changed, to make people aware that without the archival wealth and local legacy we would not be able to create rich and strong national identity.
