BALLED MOTIVES IN THE NEW NOVELETTE BY MARKO CHEREMSHYNA “A FELLOW’S CASE”

Abstract

The article analyzes folklore sources, plot, motives, images which are modeled in the novel by Marko Chermeshyna “A Fellow’s Case”. Conceptually, the work tends to a folk-lyrical epic: the plot recreates a ballad event about Shum- yltse, which was punished for loving many girls, and the entire community is following him on his way to the place of punishment. Genesis of the head character Fedusya reaches the epic where we find a lot of common in ceremonial songs (hayivkas and wedding motives). In short, Marko Chermeshyna presents a similar situation: the fair-haired fellow Fedus desecrated in one village seventeen girls. Indignanted parents filed a lawsuit. The court sentenced Fedus to pay to each of them. The guy agreed to give “one moor of field” to every girl, except of the one which was originating from gypsies. Offended Cija killed Fedus with a knife in the courtroom. In the ballad, the hint of the tragic finish of the events is already presented in the first lines (“Leading Shumiltse to hack”), which triggers the listener to adjust to the dramatic system in advance, but the punishment of the hero is “out of frame”. In the literary work, the reader is not ready for a tragic conclusion, so even with greater vulnerability perceived unexpected death of the hero. The expressive final situation of the artistic work is depicted according to the folklore scheme, differs only in the presence of the execution (the disclosure of the punishment over the guy) and the place of action (in the courtroom). By its very nature, the finish of novelett is more similar to the epic solution. Folk simulation at the figurative character level is considered on concrete examples of the comparison of the hero of the epic and the short story: both the folk and literary character are said to be similar in behavior. They combine elements of erotic and vegetative magic. Parallel novels with folklore sources are evidenced and characterized by their forms of dialogue, folk rhythm, poetic dimensions. Having mastered and artistically mastered ver- bal sources in his own way. Marko Chermeshyna presented them in a peculiar interpretation. The author was subjected to a deep creative synthesis of folk material and his own artistic fabrication with his ideological and creative goals. Syn- cretism of the national poetic and, in fact, the individual complement each other and create extremely colorful pictures of short stories.
