BORROWINGS OF EUROPEAN ECONOMIC LEXEMS INTO THE RUSSIAN LANGUAGE DURING THE XVIII CENTURY
Journal Title: Мова - Year 2014, Vol 0, Issue 22
Abstract
The article examines the process of value adaptation of Western European economic concepts that were borrowed by the Russian language during the rule of Peter-the-Great. Borrowings of Western economic concepts into the Russian linguistic perception were accompanied by the development of new pragmatic and utilitarian values into Russian society. The axio-linguistic approach which applied to the analysis of lexicographical material tends to the conclusion that, in the situation where the parallel lexical units exist, the Russian language developed evaluative couples — in which the borrowed lexical unit and its Russian counterpart have a neutral and negative connotations, respectively.
