Abstract
In this research, it is aimed to reveal what kind of changes and developments of citizenship education have occurred in Turkey in the last fifty years in the context of the aims of raising citizens by comparing the citizenship textbooks in Turkey in the 1960s and 2010s from various aspects such as language, expression, visual and content. In this research, the document analysis technique based on historical research, which examines the written sources related to the subject, which is among the qualitative research methods, will be used and the data obtained from the document analysis have been determined by the content analysis method. According to the findings of this research, it has been seen that the citizenship book taught in 2015 is more suitable for contemporary pedagogical principles in terms of differences in language and expression, physical and visual elements. While the citizenship book taught in 1967 was in a direction from the society to the child, the citizenship book taught in 2015 was built on an understanding from the individual to the society, supported by stories according to the developmental characteristics of children. As a result of the findings obtained from the research, our recommendations on the subject should be continued, first of all, this distance and emerging developments in citizenship education in Turkey from the 1960s to the 2010s. Secondly, ways should be sought for our country to contribute to the universal common values and heritage of humanity as a result of academic studies by capturing the values that will contribute to contemporary standards in raising citizens in citizenship education.
