Development and application of virtual reality technology in first aid training of maxillofacial war wounds
Journal Title: Journal of Air Force Medical University - Year 2023, Vol 44, Issue 9
Abstract
Objective To improve the first aid training effect of maxillofacial war wounds, a teaching and training system, based on virtual reality (VR) technology, is designed and developed to improve the first aid ability of the trainees through providing immersive battlefield treatment environment and interactive operation experience. Methods The training system was developed by Unity3D engine. According to the standardized first aid operation of maxillofacial war wounds, a set of VR teaching and training system and assessment management system covering the main technologies of maxillofacial war wounds treatment was developed. Results According to the training requirements of maxillofacial war wounds treatment, six training modules were developed in the VR teaching and training system, including oropharyngeal tube / nasopharyngeal tube placement, cricothyroid membrane puncture, maxillofacial bandaging and hemostasis, medical transport of maxillofacial wounded soldiers, tracheotomy and comprehensive treatment of maxillofacial war wounds. Six functional modules were designed in the assessment management system, including user information management, teaching module selection, assessment record, assessment management, automatic scoring and analysis, and record retention. Conclusion The system highly restores the battlefield environment, enhances the trainees’ feeling of being on the spot and feeling of war pressure, and practices the operation of first aid skills in a realistic environment, which can effectively improve the trainees' quality of actual combat training and battlefield first aid training effect.
