EDUCAÇÃO E PESQUISA EM CIÊNCIA DE SERVIÇOS NO BRASIL: NECESSIDADE E OPORTUNIDADE

Abstract
Th e transformation of the world and the Brazilian economies into service economies is changing the traditional processes of service innovation. In particular, there is a growing need of systematic innovation in services based on science and technology. In this paper, we do a basic review of the current status of Service Science in the world and in Brazil. Service Science is the discipline that studies services and service systems, which shows that education and research in services is still a very fragmented and incipient activity. In this context, we point out the strategic need of education policies for professionals and scientifi c-technological policies for the funding and the development of Service Science in Brazil. We also discuss opportunities for Brazil’s leadership in the area, fostered by many demographic, economic, and cultural factors.
