Elderly Disabled People and Social Exclusion

Abstract

The paper deals with the extremely important problems of population ageing and disability. After defining the concepts of old age and disability, the author discusses social attitudes towards old age, recognising the need for long-term assistance from non-governmental and private organizations. Two social groups are considered: old people and disabled people. The highest degree of exclusion occurs for people who are elderly and disabled. The problem of ageing and disability poses a big challenge in many dimensions (social, medical, ethical) and is closely related to the political and economic reality of every society.
