Evaluation of winter rape resistance to Leptosphaeria spp. and Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lib.) de Bary in trials conducted in Małyszyn and Borowo in 2007–2009

Journal Title: Rośliny Oleiste - Oilseed Crops - Year 2009, Vol 30, Issue 2

Abstract

Two-year are presented in this paper results of resistance evaluation of rapeseed cultivars to blackleg and stem rot. The research was conducted in field conditions in Małyszyn and in Borowo in 2007–2009. Artificial infection with S. sclerotiorum was performed at full flowering stage by mid aggressive pathotype Ss-3. Natural infections by Leptosphaeria spp. were used to evaluate resistance levels. The results of infection by Leptosphaeria spp. and S. sclerotiorum were estimated with the use of three-class scale (0 — resistant, 1 — medium resistant, 2 — not resistant).Statistic analysis revealed that the most resistant cultivars of oilseed rape to blackleg were Livius, Viking and Extend (infection to the level 0.20). The lowest pathogenity indexes (IP = 0.55–0.62) to stem rot were found for Taurus, Libomir, Toccata, Hycolor and Vectra cultivars.Interaction between the growing seasons and cultivars showed that the infection caused by Leptosphaeria spp. and S. sclerotiorum was smaller in 2007/2008 than in the next season 2008/2009. Biotic and abiotic conditions in Borowo were more favourable for infection by blackleg than in Małyszyn.
