FUNCTIONAL-PRAGMATIC, STRUCTURAL AND SEMANTIC FEATURES OF GERMAN FILMS’ NOMINATION. TRANSLATION TECHNICS OF FILMONIMS

Abstract

The article is dedicated to the linguistic research of German films’ nomination, namely to the analysis of its main specific features. Nominative units (filmonims) are very interesting for studying not only in onomastics (the science of names), but also in the translation space. The authors of the article research the relevance of the names’ study of German films caused by the popularization of the film industry and its huge role in the processes of intercultural communication. The article focuses on the solution of the problem of an adequate and effective translation of filmonims. The theoretical basis of the research is found on the linguistic concepts, scientific works and theories of such scientists as Frolova A. N., Milevich I. G., Podimova Y. M., Mineeva O. A., Madadova K. H., Pirogova A. A., Tikhonova A. V. etc. The authors present a classification of nominations, taking into account their functional-pragmatic specifics, the level of informational impact, semantic features, structural and compositional organization. Considering these factors, there was carried out a detailed analysis of the techniques for the effective translation of films’ nominations. All the research area covers not only the cognitive features of the target audience, but also different extralinguistic factors. There are considered 6 localization techniques in the article: literal translation, transliteration, transformation, omission (removal), complete replacement and amplification (addition). Based on the classification of nominations for functional-pragmatic, structural-compositional and semantic features, the authors selected the most effective translation strategies from the list. The authors used examples of filmonims’ translations in order to establish the main points of the research. The conclusions drawn can serve as a foundation for further study of film monologues in linguistics and theory and practice of translation.
