GENDER IDENTITY IN A TRANSITIONAL SOCIETY
Journal Title: Науковий вісник Чернівецького національного університету імені Юрія Федьковича. Серія: філософія - Year 2017, Vol 1, Issue 791
Abstract
The article is substantiating a speculative nature of sexual antagonism inherent in patriarchal society and highlighting the importance of its understanding for strengthening the idea of equality in the Western European worldview. It has been shown that the preservation of this idea in the Ukrainian-Russian intellectual space due to historical, economic and religious reasons has resulted in the fact that patriarchal gender stereotypes keep on being cultivated not only in different social environments, but remain the basic principle of education. As a result, two or more historical and even antagonistic patterns of gender identity coexist in the minds of people, which stipulate a high level of internal discontent, as in this case, this identity lacks a mono-semantic clear image of personal “I am”. In fact, in conditions of transitional society an individual gains less victory over social categorization caused by sexual division, predetermined by the cultivation of a biological factor, than deprives himself of his own identity and accordingly the constructive program of “I am” development, and therefore social medium, either.
