INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES AND POTENTIAL HUMAN RESOURCES OF ORGANIZATIONS: AN EMPIRICAL STUDY

Abstract

Social media and smart phone, which are used extensively by university students on the Z Generation, are the most noticeable tools of information. This study aims to examine the impact of social media usage and duration of usage on smartphone addiction proneness at the same time their impact on Z generation. In addition, it is aimed to provide recommendations, based on the smartphone addiction proneness increased by overusing social media and its impact on Z generation. In this empirical study, the data on perceptions concerning social media usage and smartphone addiction proneness was gathered by means of a questionnaire from 214 participating students at Artvin Coruh University Hopa Faculty of Economics and Administration in Turkey. Data were subjected to content analysis with SPSS 24.0 software by doing factor, reliability, correlation, one-way ANOVA and regression analyzes and presented in tables. The findings showed that the social media usage and duration of it have impact on smartphone addiction proneness. Also, it has been determined that most of the students use social media for 30 minutes and 3 hours in a day and that the increases of smartphone addiction proneness when social media usage more than 3 hours a day as a result of multiple comparisons.
