Abstract

In this paper the author reflects on representations of translators in literature with a special focus on the construction of their identities. Even though there are many fictional translators in literature, they are very likely to be marked by negative features or characteristics. Figures are very often shown to experience identity and personality problems, e.g. failed identification or inability to construct a coherent identity. This article reflects on the literary representations of translators as alienated figures with identity problems on the basis of different literary examples.<br/><br/>
