Method For Estimation Of Perinatal Mortality Rate Of Chhattisgarh By Using Multiple Regression Approach
Journal Title: Malla Reddy Medical College For Women Journal Of Medical Sciences - Year 2019, Vol 2, Issue 1
Abstract
Background: Perinatal mortality (PNM) refers to the death of a fetus or neonate and is the basis to calculate the perinatal mortality rate. The World Health Organization defines perinatal mortality as the "number of stillbirths and deaths in the first week of life per 1,000 total births, the perinatal period commences at 22 completed weeks (154 days) of gestation, and ends seven completed days after birth, but other definitions have been used. It is about 8 per 1,000 and varies markedly by social class with the highest rates seen in Asian women. The aim of the study is to estimate perinatal mortality rate of state Chhattisgarh (CG) on the basis of still birth and early neonatal birth rate. The linear relationship between PNMR & Still birth Rate, early neonatal birth rate. Material & Methods: Several empirical studies show a linear relationship between PNMR and still birth rate(SBR) and early neonatal birth rate(ENMR). Therefore, it was decided to fit a regression model of type: Y= A+ B1X1 +B2X2+e Where, Y= PNMR (per 1000 live births); X1=Still birth rate (per 1000 live births) and X2= Early neonatal mortality rate (per 1000 live births) e is a random error term; and A is known as intercept, B1 and B2 are slopes which are parameters to be estimated. Results:- The data were analyzed by SPSS 21.0 Version ,results indicates that the model is fit it means that we can predict or best estimation of PNMR in CG with respect to SBR& ENMR in previous 06 years. The model seems to provide comparatively better estimates for more recent periods than for the distant past.
