«NEW STAGE» IS AN AMATEUR THEATER? OR AN ATTEMPT TO IMPLEMENT – «UKRAINIAN DREAM» OF CARPATHIAN UKRAINE!

Abstract

The first Ukrainian professional theater group in Transcarpathia, organized on the basis of local artistic forces, was «Ukrainian Theater» New Stage» in Khust, giving birth to student amateur theater «Veselka », a creative structure of which was based on the graduates of theater courses of Rus Theatre of Society «Prosvita» in Uzhgorod (1921–1929), according to Vasyl Grendzha-Donskyi, these were the students of Uzhhorod Teaching Seminary and Trading Academy – the leaders of amateur theater groups that recreate the culture of native songs and native words throughout those times dark and abandoned province as it was. At the initiative of the Shergiy brothers there was established Local Chorus Carpathian Rus scouts on February 4, 1934 in Khust, mainly consisting of teachers – senior scouts. That was pecisely in Khust where Yuriy and Eugene Sheregiy stage the opera «Zaporozhets za Dunaem» with the help of the local artists – amateurs. It was a festive, famous moment in the history of formation and development of the Ukrainian national theater in Transcarpathian, certifying a new phase – the transition from Rus Theatre Society «Prosvita» in Uzhgorod to Ukrainian theater «New Stage», focused upon local artists. Tragedy of Carpathian Ukraine became the tragedy of theater «New Stage». On the well-known «Krasne Pole» among Urinary Ukrainian shooters there also was cameraman Lysiuk-Jr., who fell on the battlefield. «Gaydamaky» shot by him on the eve was first shown to American audience. His father Karl Lysiuk, took the film to America, leaving his son to rest in a mass grave in the Castle Hill in Khust, near the grave of M. Arkas. Recently, the monument to the defencers of Carpathian Ukraine appeared glorious on the Krasne Pole. There traditionally «Testament» is read, the leitmotif of which was the music play «Gaydamaky» had not taken place on March 15, 1939
