O VALOR DO CONHECIMENTO PARA SURDOS: UMA TEORIA SUBSTANTIVA CONSTRUÍDA POR MEIO DA GROUNDED THEORY

Abstract
The present research had as general objective to construct a substantive theory to explain the meanings attributed to the knowledge by deaf academics of a Institution of Higher Education located in the Northwest Paranaense. Substantive theories aim to explain phenomena in certain empirical areas. In this research, the choice of the substantive area occurred from the consideration of importance of seeking to understand the meaning of knowledge by highlighting the adverse characteristics in relation to the construction of knowledge for the deaf. The Grounded Theory, in its epistemological aspect based on the constructivism / Interacionismo proposed by Strauss and Corbin (2008) was the method of research adopted to obtain the results of this research. Data collection took place through semi-structured interviews. Data analysis involved procedures of: initial coding; Open coding; Axial coding; And selective coding. From the results of the analysis, which allowed the construction of the theory, the following categories emerged: Knowledge; Job; Libras; Family; And Social Context. Among these categories was identified as a central category, called: equality of dignity promoted by knowledge. From the propositions generated during data analysis emerged an explanation based on the data called: Knowledge as a guarantee of dignity: a perspective of deaf academics. According to this substantive theory the knowledge for the deaf of this particular (HEI) is related to the equality of dignity that he promotes to the deaf. It is hoped that the substantive theory generated as a result of this research may contribute to furthering and further studies on the meaning of knowledge and the deaf community.
