Abstract
The article analyses educational risks of Ukrainian higher school proceeding from the experience of «People’s Ukrainian Academy». As one of the first private educational institutions in Ukraine (opened in 1991), PUA faced serious risks: absence of necessary legislative and regulatory framework and starting capital; competitive advantages of state higher schools; necessity of formation of a highly professional staff within the shortest possible time, enrolment of a sufficient number of learners; economic crisis and inflation in the country. Due to correctly worked out strategies it did not take long for PUA to gain a decent position among higher schools of Kharkov and Ukraine. No activity ever rules out risks. Nowadays Ukrainian higher school faces risks caused by a demographic fall, not always reasonable imitation of European education practice, insufficient level of school leavers’ knowledge, many students combining studies with work. But most serious risks are brought about by a decrease in motivation for studies. The only way of minimizing educational risks is creating within the higher school an educational and cultural atmosphere stimulating students’ interest, responsible approach to their profession, high moral standards. In PUA this problem is being solved by a sensible combination of the educational process with extracurricular activities.
