Organization of the educational process of learning a foreign language in the university using a technology of podcast

Abstract
The theoretical and methodological aspects of using podcast technology in teaching foreign language to students of non-linguistic specialties in universities is discussed in the article. It emphasizes the relevance of the use of this technology in the educational process, because in our time, priority is given to learning a foreign language in a cultural context, communication and interactivity of learning, the use of information and communication technologies. The essence of the term “educational podcast” is disclosed, which is defined as audio or video recording created in a foreign language in accordance with the language and thematic content of the curriculum and placed on the podcast server for further use in the educational process. The properties of podcasting as an educational technology are considered: relevance, authenticity of the presented material, development of media competence, multi-functionality, multi-channel perception, interactivity, mobility, possibility of expanding the learning environment, autonomy, development of cognitive motivation to learn a foreign language, and productivity. The requirements that the educational podcast should correspond to are given: the recording language, the duration of the sound, the correspondence of the thematic content of the podcast to the curriculum and the level of students’ knowledge. As the key criteria for the evaluation of educational podcasts are proposed to correspond to the communicative task, the structure of the educational podcast, its content, lexical-grammatical and phonetic design. It justifies the feasibility and presents the experience of using podcast technology as a means of intensifying students’ foreign language teaching, suggests ways to develop speaking and listening skills of students based on using podcasts, discusses the main stages of organizing work with this social service in the educational process when learning a foreign language by students of non-language specialties at the university. The use of podcast technology allows us to solve complex tasks in the process of teaching a foreign language, contributes to the development of all components of students’ foreign language communicative competence, provides additional language practice, enhances listening skills, expands the boundaries of the learning environment, as students can learn both at school and extracurricular time is approved.
