PATRIOTISM: THE ESSENCE AND CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CONCEPT

Abstract
The article analyzes modern approaches to the interpretation of the concept of “patriotism”. Peculiarities of the definition of “patriotism” in philosophy, political science, psychology and pedagogy are examined. It is stated that in pedagogical science, in addition to outlining the methodological guidelines for the understanding of patriotism, there is still no clear definition of this complex concept. Based on the empirical analysis of referential and scientific literature, it is concluded that in the modern sense of the “patriotism” category, the following aspects of it should be distinguished: 1) patriotism as a feeling; 2) patriotism as a social duty; 3) patriotism as psychological readiness to serve to the Motherland; 4) patriotism as a moral principle. Types of patriotism are described.
