PEDAGOGICAL CONDITIONS FOR FORMING METHODOLOGICAL COMPETENCE OF THE FUTURE MASTERS-HISTORIANS

Abstract

In the context of the integration of the Ukrainian higher school into the European Higher Education Area, the problem of training masters in History is a very important problem of the education system at the present stage. Teachers of historical disciplines in higher educational institutions are trained in pedagogical universities under conditions of magistracy. Master's degree is a stage of higher professional education following the bachelor's degree which allows strengthening the specialization in the professional historical direction. During their studies at the magistracy, students study people and events in today's consciousness more deeply, the logic of disputes about history, its understanding and comprehension in politics, media, art and science. A high school teacher is an expert who equally performs two types of scientific and pedagogical activity. In our study, we consider the training of masters of history in teaching. The purpose of the article was to define the pedagogical conditions for the more effective formation of methodological competencies of the masters-historians. In our study, we determined the main methodological competencies that were planned to be formed during the course «Methods of teaching historical disciplines at the university», such as: Gnostic (studying the curricula of historical disciplines, planning the goals of teaching and educational activities, selecting educational material for lectures, seminars classes and students’ self-guided work); constructive (planning stages of teaching and educational activities in higher school, the selection of methods and means in accordance with the objectives of the occupation, determining the forms of activity in accordance with the students’ cognitive capabilities); organizational (organization of educational and cognitive activities, depending on the methodological requirements); control-corrective (systematic verification of students' knowledge and skills, self-analysis, correction of their activities depending on the results of knowledge testing); personal (professional stability of the higher school teacher). The main goal of our research was to determine the pedagogical conditions, thanks to which the process of forming methodological competencies of the masters-historians will be more effective. To realize this goal, we offered the following pedagogical conditions: 1) creation of methodical projects within the framework of the course «Methods of Teaching Historical Disciplines at the University»; 2) the application of new pedagogical and information technologies during master students’ assistance practice at the university; 3) the formation of future History teachers’ professional sustainability at an institution of higher education. To implement the pedagogical conditions that we proposed, the teaching and educational process of the master students majoring in History was divided into stages: the first stage is motivational; the second ‒ diagnostic; the third ‒ personal growth of masters; the fourth ‒ practical; the fifth ‒ the final one. The analysis of materials obtained during the study makes it possible to conclude that the integrated use of the proposed pedagogical conditions makes it possible to more effectively form the methodological competencies of future teachers of historical disciplines at the university.
