Plagioclase Evolution And Geochemical Characteristic of Basaltic Lava of Menganti Paleovolcano, Kebumen, Central Java

Journal Title: Jurnal Ilmiah Dinamika Rekayasa - Year 2019, Vol 15, Issue 2

Abstract

The existence of the subduction zone has a different magmatism and volcanism characteristics, which will be reflected in the morphology of volcanoes, type of eruption, rock associations, especially about mineralogy and geochemical characteristics of that igneous rocks, so that detailed study relates to mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of igneous rocks is needed to determine the genesis of magmatism and volcanism in the area. The research area is situated at Menganti Beach, District of Ayah, Kebumen Regency, and Central Java. The study method is a petrographic analysis method to determine the mineral composition of Menganti basaltic lava, furthermore to interpret the evolution of plagioclase minerals and geochemical analysis to identify trace elements and rare earth element (REE) using ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry). The evolution of plagioclase of Menganti basaltic lava is a decrease of An (Anorthite) content, in this case from labradorite (An52-59) to andesine labradorite (An43-50) because it is controlled by normal differentiation of magma (crystal fractionation), in this case, does not indicate the magma mixing. According to the result of geochemical study of the formation of magma affinity of Menganti basaltic lava in the research area is a tholeiitic to transition with the tectonic setting is Active Continental Margin (ACM).
