Study of Lora OLG01 Distance Performance as Wireless Connectivity Iot Infrastructure

Journal Title: Jurnal Ilmiah Dinamika Rekayasa - Year 2019, Vol 15, Issue 1

Abstract

In the Internet of Things (IoT) system, various types of physical objects around humans will be censored and represented as digital data to support human productivity. Sensors and actuators as nodes will be connected to each other to be processed by intelligent systems. There are several technology options for IoT system developers to implement connectivity between these nodes. The wireless connectivity technology includes GSM, Wi-Fi, bluetooth LE, Zigbee, NB-IoT, Sigfox and LoRa which are the topics of this study. LoRa technology was developed primarily projected as a wireless connectivity infrastructure on the IoT system. Some potential advantages of the LoRa feature claimed by the LoRa Alliance include low power, can support wide-scale IoT connectivity to thousands of nodes in one cell, and is included in the category of remote radio coverage. This study aims to test the performance of the radio range of the OLG01 LoRa module on the IoT system which was developed at the 915MHz ISM frequency in the Indonesian atmosphere. In this study, configure nodes that are connected to the gateway to be able to connect to the internet into an IoT system with sets of SF = 7 and BW = 125 kHz. The discussion is limited to testing distance range performance with RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) parameters and distance when LOS (line of sight) and non LOS (there are obstacles). The current LoRa range that is successfully measured is around a 400 m radius. This range is still not in accordance with the expected specifications, that is, up to a 5 km radius, so a more optimal solution and configuration is still needed
