Abstract

The structure, content and temporal scope of the reception of The Hunger Games series has been widely described on the Polish Internet. Evaluation of the literary value of the trilogy by Suzanne Collins was an important element of this communication. Commentators eagerly compared it to the Twilight series that had enjoyed great popularity recently. The novels by Collins were regarded as more serious work and less pretentious than the popular saga about the love between a vampire and a teenage girl as the author asks important existential questions. The non-cliché, multidimensional characters were especially praised. The novels were read on many levels: as a critique of contemporary media, a dystopia and even a set of political allusions. The similarities between battles in the arena and reality TV shows were pointed out. There were also critical voices recognizing the trilogy as a light and popular read of little literary value. Although it has only been a few years since the appearance of the fi rst book of The Hunger Games in Poland, there has been distinct and changeable dynamics of interest in the topic. The apogee of this interest was associated with subsequent premieres of the novels’ fi lm adaptations and the impact of the book premieres on network traffi c was negligible. The subject matter is certainly still valid as the available online content related to Suzanne Collins’ series is undergoing further dynamic evolution.
