Prevention of Domestic Violence in Families of Police Officers: Polish Experience

Abstract

The article is devoted to the problem of prevention of domestic violence in families of police officers: the Polish experience. Special attention is paid to innovative forms of organizing police activity in Poland, especially in the sphere of prevention and prohibition of anti-social behavior among police officers. The main analysis focuses on activities of police psychology services, in case of identifying police officers as the domestic violence abuser. Also detailed is the form of illegality of police officers in maintaining their duties while receiving the information from the victim about the facts of domestic violence or other abusive behavior. Analyzing the illegality, special attention was paid to cruel attitude to victim and tolerance of criminal behavior of other police officers. In the article also mention that while analyzing situations where police officers commit domestic violence, it is frequently connected with irregularities in the intervention procedure. In Poland that information was received by the Ombudsman and police psychologists from the victims and witnesses. These irregularities, step by step can be connected with the activities of the district police officer and were analyzed in details. Mentioned that the problem of police officer domestic violence is not even recognized as a problem in Ukraine. Although there are no official statistics for police officer domestic violence, this does not mean that the problem does not exist, and there is no silent suffering victims and family witnesses of these crimes.
