Abstract

Outbreaks of insect herbivores in the territory of Dnipropetrovsk region has attracted the attention of scientists since the late nineteenth century. The first printed information is presented in the works of Bramson K. L. (1883, 1896), which indicates the mass reproduction of M. neustrium, E. chrysorrhoea and L. dispar in Ekaterinoslav province. In the early twentieth century in Ekaterinoslav province was created regional agricultural research station. From that moment takes place the system monitoring of herbivores populations particularly dangerous in the province, including Lepidoptera. Comprehensive work devoted to the research of this this issue began only in the late 1940s in the expedition to study natural and artificial forest steppe zones of Ukraine and Moldova. During this period there were published most of the regional papers, studies devoted to the problem of dangerous forest types, including complex moth. In the last ten years research of dangerous forest species of moth in Dnipropetrovsk is carried out under the project to study the biodiversity of the area. Permanent monitoring covers artificial forest ecosystems main by area and degree of conservation. The main material was based on own collecting on the territory of studies conducted over the last ten years. In addition to own material were handled material assets of Entomological Department of the chair for Zoology and Ecology of Oles Honchar Dnipropetrovsk National University. Field survey covers all major artificial forest ecosystems of Dnipropetrovsk region by size and degree of preservation. Analysis of historical data showed that the greatest impact on the artificial tree plantations among Lepidoptera have representatives of the so-called complex moth. This complex of our fauna, usually referred to these kinds of families Geometridae, Lasiocampidae, Endromididae, Saturniidae, Lemoniidae, Sphingidae, Notodontidae, Lymantriidae, Arctiidae, Syntomidae, Noctuidae. Among these taxa, there are representatives of six families for the entire monitoring period, under artificial afforestation, showed the number of outbreaks. For more than 100 years of entomological monitoring of artificial tree plantations in Dnipropetrovsk region, revealed that 14 species of moth complex showed the number of outbreaks. The greatest danger among them are three kinds – Lymantria dispar (Linnaeus, 1758), Euproctis chrysorrhoea (Linnaeus, 1758), Phalera bucephala (Linnaeus, 1758), showed frequent outbreaks several times per decade. Particular attention draws quarantine kind Hyphantria cunea (Drury, 1773) that has spread through the territory of the region since the second half of the 1970s in the twentieth century and from these times regularly gives the number of outbreaks, mainly in terms of artificial shelterbelts. At the state level, there was a program adopted to increase forest coverage in Dnipropetrovsk in the future. This goal can only be achieved through artificial afforestation. Therefore, monitoring of phyto-sanitary condition of artificial forest plantations remains relevant and promising for further research.
