Abstract
The article analyzes the state of physical education in higher educational institutions, taking into account the current reform of the educational system, which is happening in Ukraine. It is shown what approaches to organization of the process of physical education and sports in higher educational institutions are reflected in the Law of Ukraine “About Higher Education” of 2014. The problems of modern physical education and the negative consequences that have arisen in higher educational institutions in connection with the adoption of the Law are outlined, and ways of their solution are suggested. The experience and the main principles of organization of physical education classes at Kharkiv Humanitarian University “People’ s Ukrainian Academy” are given. They allow students to fully realize their right to practice physical culture and sports in PE classes. The university has opportunity to actualize the principle of forming fitness and health-improving capabilities of modern students, to ensure their systematic work mental, aesthetic and physical qualities with the help of physical education
