SUSTAINABLE AND RESPONSIBLE ACADEMIC FREEDOM

Abstract
Academic freedom is the basis for universities, since it is necessary for the discovery and dissemination of truth. This freedom is put at risk today, and universities, and maybe especially business schools, are subject to societal, material and ideological influence that guide them towards political correctness and fashionable ideologies. In this paper I present the case of ‘Responsible Management Education’ that has been decided by many business school and some universities to be an ideology that should direct teaching and research, thus limiting academic freedom. I offer four explanations why this risk is present and suggest some actions to reduce the risk.
