Roberto Piumini : prolegomena do życia i twórczości pisarza

Abstract
Often regarded as a literary heir to Gianni Rodari, Roberto Piumini is one of the most important contemporary Italian writers for children and young adults. Present on the Italian market since 1978, Piumini has won several prestigious literary awards (e.g. Premio Cento and Andersen Premio) and endeared himself to readers in Europe, Asia and both Americas. In Poland, Piumini’s versatile work, including fairy tales, short stories, novels and poetry, still remains practically unknown. Only two of his texts – Migotnik (2012, Lo stralisco/The painter) and Maciuś i dziadek (2013, Mattia e il nonno/Mattia and Grandpa) – are available in Poland. Both address the diffi cult theme of death and form a valuable contribution to thanatological literature. The works, though augmenting the genre known to Polish readers through translations are not representative of the wealth of Piumini’s themes and motifs. They might incline the readers to perceive him, wrongly, as an author focused only on death and dying.
