RODRIGO TERRA CAMBARÁ E A MODERNIZAÇÃO DE SANTA FÉ

Abstract
Since the formation of the town, in the early nineteenth century until the year of 1945, Santa Fé is a space where it develops the plot of “O Tempo e o Vento”. More than just a scenario in which the characters move, Santa Fe tracks the transformation of its residents and their social practices, suffering from the action of time and the generations that follow. The study examines the process of modernization of Santa Fe led by Rodrigo Terra Cambará, seeking to establish a relationship between the character and some theories about modernity. For Giddens (2002), what characterizes modernity and separates it from previous periods is the extreme dynamism, not just the pace of social change, but the extent largeness and depth of it, which affects social practices and modes of behavior. Dr. Rodrigo incorporated new habits and behaviors to the social life of Santa Fé, was an enthusiast of modernity without realizing that he himself suffered the consequences of this. His influences were not restricted to material or architectural aspects of the city, but were felt mainly in the way of life of other characters, changing his way of seeing life.
