Abstract
The article deals with the semantic analysis of a metaphor in the structure of mythological and scientific knowledge. It has been shown that a metaphor is a significant topic of the contemporary philosophy and methodology of science because it correlates with the main intentions of modern methodology such as interdisciplinary approach and communicative method. The authors have paid attention to cognitive potentiality of a metaphor within a scientific method and mythological Weltanschauung. The opposition of the scientific method and a metaphor made it possible to reveal the conceptual incompatibility of the notions. A metaphor is aimed at the concentration of meaning in a single image, while a scientific method is designed to detail the images through finding the most elementary (atomic) meaning. The conflict escalating between a metaphor and a method was comprehended in the works by E. Cassirer, C. Levi-Strausse, J. Lacan where we can find the original approaches to resolution of this opposition. Sequential analysis of the concepts of symbolical forms, structural analysis and psychoanalytical symptom shown that a metaphor is rather a fundamental mechanism of thinking than a methodological necessity. This made it possible for the authors to assert that metaphoric thinking is closer to a myth than to a scientific method. However, the analysis of the discource of science on the Weltanschauung level indicates an inextricable link between the mythological and scientific worldviews. Comparison of the scientific and mythological languages from the point of view of metaphorical thinking allows revealing the general mechanisms of establishing mythological images and scientific concepts, however not falsifying the fact of their confrontation in the matter of the objectivity of knowledge. It turned out that a metaphor in the science is not a rudiment of mythological thinking but a necessary element because it is inherent in any discourse scientific including. That is why the authors come to the conclusion that a metaphor allows us to consider the myth and the science being parts of a single semantic field. In addition, the analysis of non-scientific kinds of knowledge made it possible to clarify the heuristic role of a metaphor thoroughly, as well as to prove that it performs the function of an intermediary between an attitude of the world and scientific ideas.
