Role of conductor in formation holistic perception of music

Abstract

The article notes that the leading person, directs the musical group, there is a conductor. He has a big responsibility: artistic, moral and ethical, financial and economic. A successful conductor is a unique leader who not only unites the heterogeneous plurality of orchestra and choir singers into a holistic creative “organism”, but also determines the path of the collective’s development. It is noted that before the conductor there is a problem of choice: to choose the repertoire and performing interpretations dictated by demand, or to offer a new musical interpretation, an individually unique solution, the philosophical “listening” of the world, cannot always promise material success and quick mass recognition. The accuracy of the answer depends not only on the creative fate of the conductor himself, but also on the prosperity of the entire musical collective. It is noted that one of the urgent problems is to determine the success of elite institutions in their essence – a symphony orchestra or an academic choir in the context of global, mass public consumption. In addition, the topic of searching for the technology of the stage success of a conductor as an individual remains relevant. It is worth noting that by this time the opinion expressed in the middle of the 20th century is supported in the musical environment. American conductor L. Stokowski: “Conducting is one of the most obscure and misunderstood areas of musical art. Often, too much importance is attached to the external side of conducting, while the internal content of the art of conducting remains completely unrevealed” [2, p. 159]. But since then, enough time has passed, and the conductor’s activities have undergone obvious changes, directly related to the transformation of social life. The consumer society has made the sphere of musical culture a part of global business processes, and this key point cannot be ignored when it comes to conducting.
