Rotation Optimization Based on Implicit Graph Model and the Longest Path Algorithm

Abstract
Considering the concept of setting the rotation to maximize the economic returns in forest,the profit model was developed to maximize the net present value from selling timber. Then an implicit graph was designed by converting the profit maximization to the longest path,which was solved by a longest path algorithm. A numerical case was made to illustrate the profit model and the longest path algorithm.Additionally,three experiments were designed and conducted to analyze the influence of input-output of timberland,timber profit and the timber yield on optimal rotation. The experiments results show that forestry investment return cycle is long,and the return is affected by market interest rates significantly. Determination of the most economic rotation is heavily dependent on the timber yield function selection.
