RURAL ARCHITECTURES OF ASSYRIANS SETTLED IN TUR ABDIN REGION IN THE CONTEXT OF LOCATION, TIME AND SOCIO-CULTURE: THE CASE OF MIDYAT-HABERLİ (BASIBİRN) VILLAGE

Abstract
Located at the point of intersection of Anatolia, Mesopotamia and Syria, Tur Abdinis the first settlement area of Assyrians, one of the ancient communities in the region. Known as an ancient name, Tur Abdin Region is defined as a geographical area located within the boundaries of Mardin in the east, Hasankeyf in the north, Cizre in the east and Nusaybin in the south. Seemed to be an anomalous community in the collective memory of people living in the region, Assyrians have ensured that the patterns forming the system of spatial settlements specific to them in the context of cultural and economic structure invigorate on these lands since 4th century. Ensuring the representation of pluralist settlements in the region, the rural and urban architectural texture patterns have been the living space of appearances of a different belief spreading to location and cultural life. Haberli (Basibirn) Village having been one of the villages of Assyrians affiliated with Midyat formerly, the physical locations of rural location building patterns expressing the cultural, societal and religious life and the transformations, destructions and societal disintegrations to which they were exposed within the time dimension constitute the focal point of this study. In this study, one anticipates that, together with traces of civilizations having created the system of settlements of ancient communities in the region, the history of rural settlement pattern and religious structures of Haberli (Basibirn) village in the context of Assyrian culture having opened new doors in the historical cycle of Mesopotamia will be revealed.
