Socialist Ideas in Ivan Franko’s Works: The European Dimension

Abstract
The focus of the research paper is on I.Franko’s interpretation of the two (now globally known and highly controversial) ideas. One of them, popular in Europe, was the idea of socialism, whereas the other was related to Marxism (“social democratism”). The thinker formulated his understanding of the socialist idea by referring to Plato’s works and basic practices of Christian communities. As for “social democratic” doctrine, Franko regarded it as a totalitarian religion. Attention is also drawn to the writer’s attitude towards scientific knowledge in general, represented by his work “The Creation of the World”.
