Socio-political delineation in Estonia in 1985-1991

Abstract

The article contains an overview of the sociopolitical separation in Estonia in 1985–1991. This time was characterized by a rise in civic activity in the struggle for the restoration of Estonian statehood. In addition to organizing the national reform movement, forces were created that advocated the continuation of the Soviet vector of development. The decisive factor in the ideological confrontation was the general domination of the idea of independence among the Estonian national elites.
